Dirty Boxing Launch

New Rules or Old Rules?

Boxing
But Dirty

Dirty Boxing Championships will be holding its first event this weekend.

They had a soft launch last November in Miami. Co-owner/co-founder Mike Perry and a few others started the promotion with some help from former Karate Combat President Adam Kovacs. Perry found a lot of success in the world of bare-knuckle boxing when he left the UFC and this is where he has been investing some of his time and money.

The event, being dubbed as “DBX1” will be available free on my Millions page and other viewing platforms.

The main event features Yoel Romero vs. Ras Hylton in a heavyweight bout. Romero fought in the launch event where he won by first-round knockout against Duane Crespo. Crespo, is a Power Slap competitor and the bout went as expected it would go against someone like Romero.

But Hylton is something different.

Hylton is a former Cage Titans heavyweight champion, whom I interviewed for Spectation Sports when he fought for the title there. He also fought for Bellator MMA, and has a record of 10-8. With the current ruleset for Dirty Boxing Championship, fans may look at Hylton as the underdog, but with no kicks or takedowns for Romero to use, don’t be surprised if Hylton can pull off an upset here.

Since this will be new to most of us, the rules pretty much allow all striking of any kind above the belt. The official rules state, “All punching and hand-striking techniques are executed with the closed fist or open hand directed to the front and sides of the head and the torso above the beltline. Ridge-hand, backfists, forearm, palm-strikes and elbow strikes are also legal.”

No kicks or takedowns are allowed, which may prove helpful for Hylton and difficult for Romero.

While he is a freak of nature, it should still be noted that Romero is the older competitor here (47) against the younger Hylton (37). 10 years, in combat sports makes a difference.

Either way, in a time when MMA is becoming normal and saturated by the UFC, this is something new, and free worth checking out.

It’ll be streaming in a few places including YouTube and Twitter/X, but if you watch it on Millions, it helps me out and this newsletter. It’s free, wherever you choose to watch with early prelims at 6 PM ET, and the main card at 7 PM ET.
