Four Prime Day Recommendations For MMA Fans
Prime Day is October 8 and 9
The October Prime Days (10-8, 10-9) are here and if you follow this newsletter or are a fan of MMA you might want to take advantage of the specials.
Maybe you’re not only a fan, but you also practice and dabble in martial arts or just got into the sport and want to know more about it. Either way, I’ve got you covered with TK you can get right on Amazon.
It’s funny because when I first got into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you had to go to Budo Videos or “Jiu-Jitsu Pro-gear” to get your training equipment. Or, you had to go straight to the Atama or Fuji websites to buy your gi. Now, you can get all that and more on Amazon without breaking the bank.
Elite Sports Core BJJ Gi
This company sent me one of their gi’s that I did a full review of.
Without re-writing the whole thing on here I can tell you the brand is a solid purchase, especially if you are just starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. You can get them in a multitude of colors (besides yellow) right here.
Raw Combat: The Underground World of Mixed Martial Arts
This book by Jim Genia, who I believe to be one of the original and best journalists on the sport gives you a lot of history on the hurdles MMA went through in the Northeast. Genia’s work has been featured on UFC Fight Pass, and in the upcoming documentary “The Neglia Nexus: Louis Neglia and The Origins of MMA.”
With UFC 309 around the corner, this is worth a read since the sport was banned in New York up until 2016. Pick up a copy here:
PRIDE NEVER DIE
Mixed martial arts is fun to watch.
But in my opinion it will never be as fun as Pride Fighting Championships (Pride FC) was in the early 2000s. With the growth of MMA, largely due to the UFC these days I have met people that were not even aware Pride FC existed. It was probably one of the best times in the sport, and they were the leading organization at the time, not the UFC.
Well, Lee Daly chronicled the organization in his book “Before A Fall: A History of Pride Fighting Championships” and I was able to interview him when the book was released. It contains some great illustrations and historical moments from the organization before it fell and was absorbed into the UFC. You can check out my interview with Daly here and pick up a copy right by clicking below:
Keep Clean
This is for those who train and want to make sure they clean up afterward.
I know not all gyms have access to a shower and some of us drive 30 or 40 minutes from their training locations before they can get home and clean up. I know other popular bands make wipes for post-training cleaning but BJJ Gold has been my go-to for years. The price has always been better than similar products and I always keep a can in my bag.
