Free Agent Aaron Pico Media Tour
Hearing about your favorite athlete being a free agent is like finding out the girl you've had your eye on is now single.
But, what usually happens is you find out she's not really single. She's still hung up on the guy she broke up with, or she already has a new guy. There's always something that takes the wind out of that sail once you look into it.
It looks like the same thing is happening to Aaron Pico (13-4), who reportedly entered free agency at the end of last year.
But not really.
According to Pico, Donn Davis won't release him from his contract due to the matching clause that exists. It's something fight fans might be familiar with in the sports world. These contracts are often referred to as "sticky" because of the right the contracting promotion gives itself to match any new offer the athlete gets.
Davis says he’s not holding him back:
Pico flat out said on his appearance at MMA Junkie, "I don't want to fight for you." Addressing PFL co-founder Davis. He wants to fight in the UFC, he even seems to have already seen his path to a title there, naming fighters he would like to fight.
When speaking to Grind City Media, he said, "I don't want to fight in PFL, I don't want to fight in Bellator, I want to fight in UFC. Donn Davis won't give me my full release, come on man! Do the right thing and give me my full release."
Pico is ringing the same bell that Patricio “Pitbull”, Patchy Mix, and countless other former Bellator fighters are ringing. To release them from their contracts.
The same day Pico made his appearances on the various outlets, Davis and the PFL promoted their upcoming events. None of which feature Pico or the other fighters wondering what’s happening.
Still waiting on pfl for some fight news… haven’t heard a peep from Donn or the PFL team. What’s going on guys?
