Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson will be facing Jake Paul on Friday night.
The event will stream live on Netflix. They will walk to the ring around 11 PM to face each other. Only one legacy is on the line, and that’s Tyson’s. The 58-year-old former heavyweight champion of the world will risk further damage to his body from Paul, a YouTuber turned boxer.
Paul loses nothing if Tyson knocks him out.
He’s supposed to lose, it’s Mike Tyson.
But if Paul wins, he’ll add to his legacy of beating non-boxers in a sport he always has some edge in. I respect Paul for putting time and energy into the sweet science. He even tries to silence his doubters and goes unnoticed when he faces real boxers closer to his age.
But this is different, a win for him won’t mean the same as a win for Tyson would.
I just hope Tyson has one more KO in him.
Jon Jones
Jones will be facing Stipe Miocic and throughout his career, he’s done nothing but win.
With the UFC returning to The Big Apple once again, to pack the house at Madison Square Garden, Jones looks to cement his legacy beating Miocic and defending the heavyweight title. It’s a fight worth seeing, regardless of the odds.
What happens after will say more about Jones’ legacy than the result of the fight.
If he wins, he beat someone that the UFC shelved for a long time and wanted to leave anyway. With Interim Champion Tom Aspinall waiting, the true legacy lies there. Unifying the title would be a great way to walk off into the sunset.
If he loses, he will lose to someone who has been shelved for a long time and wants to leave the sport anyway. But, if that happens he will likely get a rematch, and it’ll be in July at International Fight Week.
Unless Jones’ other legacy decides to pop up.
You know the one I mean, the one…outside of the cage.
