Bellator Lives on!
At least the format does.
Yesterday, the PFL announced a World Tournament for this year, breaking from their seasonal format to make one global tournament for various weight classes. The tournament prize money may seem like less, but the structure looks to compound what the fighters can earn. In the press release, the PFL said “The PFL World Tournament will payout over $20 million in total prize money, including a $500,000 bonus for every winner.”
The format will be implemented within five months, beginning in April. If you have been watching MMA for a while, this might sound familiar because it is Bellator MMA’s original format. I suppose the PFL could have just changed their name to Bellator, but that would probably make them look bad (or worse) after announcing the end of Bellator earlier this week.
If you already knew that, then you may find my podcast co-host’s post funny:

UFC 311 Preview
Podcast Episode Art
The UFC returned last week with an APEX card, which was good if you missed it.
However, their first pay-per-view event of the year is this weekend which has two title fights on the card. It’s a heavy Dagestani/Georgian-themed main card that many people have opinions on regarding the outcomes, but the opening bout of the main card is the fight I’m most interested in.
Kevin Holland vs Renier de Ridder
De Ridder is a former ONE Championship, double-champ and this is his second fight in the UFC. I’m interested to see how far he can go there. If you are unfamiliar with his work, you can read what I wrote about him over at MYMMANEWS here.
Check out our picks for the card on this week’s Coast-2-Coast Combat Hour:
Whether you're a die-hard fan or just looking for some exciting entertainment, these fights are sure to deliver.
