UFC 312 feels like the card that never was.

Here we are, on fight week, for a card in Sydney, Australia and neither fighter is an Australian.

But, this is not something the UFC cares about anymore. We saw “Noche UFC” a card that was supposed to be “a love letter to Mexican people,” according to Dana White, headlined by two white guys. It doesn’t matter who’s fighting in the UFC anymore; it’s the brand people are tuning in to now.

It’s also probably why this card feels more under the radar than any other UFC pay-per-view. To be fair, those are always the ones that something crazy happens.

Still, last weekend, when Michael “Venom” Page won his first middleweight bout in the UFC, he said that both the middleweight and welterweight divisions are in an interesting place right now. When asked if he would move up in weight, he said “A lot of people that maybe normally don’t lose are losing at the moment so I can see my path to the top so I want to want to make that happen.”

I agree with him and you can read more about him possibly moving to middleweight over at MyMMANews.

Speaking of the middleweight division, the main event of UFC 312 is pretty much a fight that describes Page’s view of the division’s state.

Dricus du Plessis faces Sean Strickland for the second time in a bout no one really asked for. It’s only the second pay-per-view event of the year and the card is not getting a lot of love from fight fans. Two title fights are on the card, but the headlining middleweight title fight is likely to go the same way the first one went.

I believe du Plessis will successfully defend the title, and the division will remain the same unless another strong middleweight can barrel through the rankings. Renier de Ridder is the guy I think is capable of doing it, but we have the rest of 2025 to find out.
