UFC on ESPN: Tybura vs Spivac 2 Bonuses

This weekend’s UFC card at the Apex did not get a lot of love from fight fans over the weekend, but that does not mean there weren’t any good fights.

Three performance of the night bonuses went to the three finishes on the card, all by submission. Serghei Spivac, Youssef Zalal, and Toshiomi Kazama received bonuses for getting finishes at the UFC Apex. The main event, a heavyweight one no less for Spivac was well deserved as knockouts seem to happen more in that division than submissions. According to the broadcast team, that was the first UFC heavyweight armbar since Fabricio Werdum tapped Alexander Gustafsson on July 25, 2020.

Check out the finish here:

Kozama, the bantamweight from Japan was an underdog. He won some bettors some money when he secured his triangle choke on Charalampos Grigoriou in round two of a fight that had Kozama push the pace enough to get to the submission. Check it out here:

And finally, Zalal’s first-round submission during the prelims showed a renewed fighter who was in the UFC, stepped away for a while and returned with a statement. Check out his quick work here:

Honorable Mention

While there were no “Fight of the Night” bonuses given, one fighter to watch that I was impressed with was Stephanie Luciano. Her fight was a rematch from her Contender Series bout against Talita Alencar. They fought to a draw back then, and a year later Luciano showed that she can evolve and adapt to beat opponents that are threatening in certain areas. Every time Alencar tried to bring the fight to the ground, Luciano made sure the fight stayed where she was comfortable. Keep an eye on her, I can see her getting the push from the UFC soon.

Speaking of Contender Series

With Dana White’s Contender Series getting ready to kick off again, a lot of fighters from the regional circuit will be getting their shot at a UFC contract. One middleweight is doing it for the second time later this month.

Torrez Finney is currently 8-0, with six of his eight wins coming by way of knock out. I have a piece I wrote on him for Spectation Sports that should be dropping there soon, but you can check out the full interview right here:
